Gecko

Geckos are lizards found in warm climates world wide. They are of the infraorder Gekkota, and are unique in their vocalizations (they make chirping sounds when interacting with other geckos). There are 1,500 different species of gecko, second most after skinks for all lizards. There are many species that remain undiscovered as well. In place of eye lids, geckos have transparent membranes which they clean by licking. Their defensive mechanisms range from emissions of foul odors to tail dropping (autotomy). Geckos are nocturnal and are amazing climbers. Many gecko species possess toe pads that allow them to climb smooth and vertical (such as glass) surfaces (they are the Spideys of the reptile kingdom!) and even across ceilings upside down! In warmer climates, geckos live alongside humans indoors and are welcomed as housemates as they feed off insects such as mosquitoes.
